the return of the banderilla

Banderilla means little flag, and these little toothpick bite tapas are the most delicious banderillas.  I used to make them at Mediteranneo, and I’m so excited they’ve made a comeback in my life!  We’re serving them as a special this week at The Source.

I love the combination of sweet & salty white anchovy with the perfect acidity of a roasted red pepper and the creamy texture of the avocado.  You’ll be missing out if you separate them – just put the whole bite in your mouth and experience the absolute pleasure of this simple combination. It’s the perfect little snack with protein, omega 3 fatty acids, and healthy fats.

I love to pair this with a Txakoli, a sparkling white wine from the Basque region of Spain, which is known for its high acidity and low alcohol content.
